English translation is here.
Nourah is a Japanese belly dancer who believes that belly dance is a means
to connect to earth and heal oneself. Along with 21 students and staff
members of Devadasi Studio , where she teaches belly dance in Tokyo, she
participated in the belly dance festival held in Istanbul. Last night, they
appeared in the bar alley of Besiktas Square.
During the day, they participated in various dance workshops along with
students of belly dance schools from more than twenty countries such as
Egypt, Morocco, Germany and Australia. At night, they danced ecstatically
to live Gypsy music at outdoor shows, wearing colorful costumes and veils.
Nourah, however, is disappointed in the way belly dance is treated in
Turkey. “Belly dance is not given value in countries like Turkey and Egypt.
In Japan however, belly dance is acknowledged as an authentic art form.
From ancient times, women have felt the beauty of life by connecting to
nature. Belly dance too, gives us powerful energy and beauty, and is also a
means to heal oneself.
We spoke further.
Not only is belly dance a means to heal oneself, but the beauty and healing
spreads to those who watch the dance. Beauty is powerful, and has healing
powers. In Japan, more women than men tend to watch belly dance, and many
women are beginning to take lessons. If there were more women who are
beautiful and full of healing powers, in effect, wouldn't it spread to the
world and eventually heal the planet? We then continued to talk about the
cycle of beauty and healing powers. Perhaps this article does not fully
portray the depth of our conversation.
“I'm deeply grateful to Gulsen, of the wine bar 'Misket' in Istanbul for
giving me the opportunity to hold this event. I couldn't have done it
alone. Turkey is still not safe, and the more I learned about the local
conditions, I hesitated to go ahead. But together with twenty beautiful
Japanese belly dancers, we could make the event a success. I'm truly
grateful to all the dancers who participated.”
